Our Story
Threads of Tehzeeb
Ethnava started with a simple frustration: chikankari this fine was made for daily life, but almost never sold that way. We set out to change that, one hand-embroidered piece at a time.
Where it began
Chikankari is Lucknow's own - a shadow-work embroidery tradition that's been worked by hand in this city for over two centuries. Most of it, though, still reaches shoppers through the same narrow channel it always has: heavy festive pieces, sized inconsistently, sold as occasion wear and little else.
Ethnava exists to put that same handwork into clothes people actually reach for on an ordinary Tuesday. We work directly with karigars in Lucknow, hold the craft to the standard it deserves, and cut every piece to be worn - not just kept for a wedding season.

What we hold to
Hand-embroidered, never printed
Every motif is worked stitch by stitch by a karigar in Lucknow - the same jaali, murri and phanda techniques the city has practiced for over two hundred years.
Cut for real days
Chikankari has a reputation for being occasion-only. We draft it in breathable mul and chanderi, sized true, so it moves from a desk to a dinner without changing.
Slow, on purpose
A single kurta can take days of embroidery before it's even cut and stitched. We'd rather ship less, often, than rush the hand that makes it.
200+
years of chikankari craft behind every piece
48hrs+
of hand embroidery on a single kurta set
100%
of pieces worked by Lucknow karigars
Made in Lucknow, worn everywhere
Every Ethnava piece starts on unstitched fabric in a karigar's hands and ends on a hanger ready to travel - to Mumbai, to Dubai, to wherever you actually live. We're a small, growing house, and we'd rather grow slowly with the craft intact than scale past what it can hold.
